Interview With Mike McKeever, P.E.
America's Original Home Inspection Consultants

Mike McKeever, P.E. is teamed with Criterium-Pioli Engineers. He has over twelve years experience in engineering design, analysis and construction.

Q: How does your background as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) help you when you inspect a home?

A: The designation of P.E. demonstrates a level of competance and commitment to the engineering profession. You can think of me as a person who has the experience to distinguish between areas of concern and those that are not. Others without that level of competance may quickly jump to an inappropriate conclusion. I on the other hand have the education and experience to determine whether or not the particular item of interest is truely a concern.

Q: Some people think that "an Engineers report" costs too much. What do you think about that?

A: This is a good question, but I would like to point out that you are receiving a higher quality service. Not only that, but you are potentially saving yourself a considerable amount of money. I say this for two simple reasons. First, most home inspectors are not engineers and therefore cannot legally comment the structural integrity of the home. For this reason they will often refer you to an engineer. My question to you is "Why pay twice?". Second, you can be sure to receive a quality and ethical evaluation of your home. Feel confident that the person evaluating the home will not identify insignificant issues to protect himself. My focus is on providing you with the best evaluation possible and to provide you the necessary information you truely need to make your purchase decision.

Q: What do you tell a client when you find an area of concern?

A: The first thing I do is explain what I have seen. The next step is to discuss why this is an area of concern. Is water leaking into the house? Is there a fire hazard? Is there a concern with the structural integrity of the house? I also like to talk about and compare how other houses are built. The final step is to discuss corrections for the problem.

Q: What do you like best about inspecting homes?

A: I enjoy building relationships with people. My goal is keep you as a return customer and earn your trust. I enjoy helping people feel comfortable with the largest purchase one typically makes. I also feel it is my duty to provide you with an honest evaluation of the property if something of concern is found.

Q: What other interests do you have?

A: My wife (Amy), Daughter (Lauren) and Son (Dylan) enjoy traveling, camping and activities around the house. I enjoy coaching many of my kids sports teams and playing golf whenever I can.
